Basketball Legend Kobe Bryant dies in the Helicopter Crash

Kobe Bryant died on Sunday 26th January 2020 in a helicopter (private) crash near the Calabasas, California. In this accident, Kobe Bryant, along with eight (8) other people, were killed. Among the other eight people, one was his young daughter (13 years old), Gianna.

What do we know about the crash?

Some information about Kobe Bryant’s death and the helicopter crashed are confirmed by the local and BBC reporters.

The helicopter Sikorsky S-76B was owned by Bryant. It flew away from John Wayne Airport in Orange Country at about 9:06 a.m. The aircraft flew with a total of nine people, eight passengers, and a pilot. And all the nine members died in the accident. The eight passengers and a pilot are identified.

  • Kobe Bryant: Kobe Bryant was one of an American professional basketball player who played 20 seasons in NBA (National Basketball Association). He was traveling to Thousand Oaks, California, with his daughter for a youth basketball event. He was 41 years at the time of his death.
  • Gianna Bryant: Gianna Bryant was Kobe Bryant’s second daughter among his four children. Kobe used to call his daughter Gigi. She was going to Thousand Oaks, California, to play a basketball game, and his father, Kobe was expected to her coach. At the time of her death, Gigi was only 13 years old.
  • John Altobelli: John Altobelli was an American college baseball coach. He was in the helicopter with his wife and daughter to attend the youth basketball event. He died at 56 years old age.
  • Keri Altobelli: Keri Altobelli was J. Altobelli’s wife. She was traveling in the Sikorsky S-76B with his family.
  • Alyssa Altobelli: Alyssa Altobelli was J. Altobelli’s daughter, who was traveling with his parents. She was Gianna Bryant’s teammate at the Mamba Academy.
  • Christina Mauser: Christina Mauser was an assistant basketball coach at the K-8 Private School, Orange Country.
  • Sarah Chester and Payton Chester: Sarah Chester and her daughter Payton Chester were also on the helicopter.
  • Ara Zobayan: Ara Zobayan was the pilot of that helicopter.

All the eight people were traveling to the Bryant’s Mamba Academy for a practice session of a youth basketball tournament.

On that day, the weather was foggy and had light rain. And the pilot noticed the issue when the helicopter was above the L.A. Zoo, and he circled the area six times at the height of 260 meters or 850 feet. At 9:30 a.m., the pilot contacted the Burbank Airport’s Control Tower and informed the tower about the current situation. At that moment, the pilot noticed heavy fog and had to turn the helicopter. He turned the aircraft in the south towards the mountain. At 9:40 a.m. at 298 km/h speed, the aircraft climbed up 2000 feet. At 9:45 a.m., the aircraft crashed with the hill and caught fire on one side. The helicopter circled over the Glendale for a few minutes. And around 10:00 a.m., the helicopter went down the field and sounded like a boom. The LACoFD (Los Angeles Country Fire Department) came there, and the fireman soaking everywhere, and the fire finally extinguished at 10:30 a.m. None of the passengers survived, and the reason for crashing the helicopter is mentioned heavy fog. The accident was very smashing. FAA (Federal Aviation Administration), NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board) and FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) has been impulsed for further investigation.

Who was Kobe Bryant?

Kobe Bryant’s full name was Kobe Bean Bryant, who was born on 23rd August 1978. He was an American Professional Basketball Player. He played in the NBA with Los Angeles Lakers (an American professional basketball team). When he was in the Lower Merion High school, he entered the NBA. Kobe Bryant’s dad is Joe Bryant, who is currently a coach, and he was an American former Professional basketball player. Joe Bryant was the head coach of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) from 2005 to 2007. In 2011, he got back his position.

Kobe Bryant’s wife was Vanessa Bryant, and they had four daughters. Their second daughter Gianna was born in May 2006. Kobe Bryant’s weight was 212 pounds or 96 kg.
